Any material or object proposed to come into contact directly or indirectly with food must be sufficiently inert to prevent substances from being transferred to food in quantities large enough - to endanger human health or - to bring about an intolerable change in the structure of the food - to bring about a worsening in the organoleptic properties of the food (taste, odor, and color) In order to demonstrate that the food contact materials are in accordance with the legislation, they have to be subjected to testing.
