UV coating is also eco-friendly, since it releases no volatile organic compounds (VOCs) once cured. UV coatings are cured by exposure to ultraviolet light to quickly dry and harden the coating. UV coatings can be applied as a flood (covering the entire printed sheet) or as a spot coating and can be applied on or off press. Spot UV coating can be a great way to grab attention of the consumer. UV compatible inks must be used on sheets that will be UV coated. A wide range of series 960UV varnishes ideally round off RUCO’s product range for the label industry. Suitable for different application techniques, they help to achieve high resistance to specific media and eye-catching advertising effects. Deserving special mention in this context is the transparent and flexible low-tactile varnish 960UV501 which impresses with its high level of reactivity and excellent structure.
Offering outstanding slip and release properties, RUCO’s new UV flexo release varnish 960UV504 represents a convincing solution for multi-layer labels. The varnish is characterized by very good printability at high speeds and good adhesion and wetting properties on printing inks. In addition, it features a lasting release effect against many commercially available adhesives. Compared to competitor products, the release varnish has a better static CoF value so that the first release from the overlayer is easier. The overlayer can be removed easily and evenly. Possible applications are lottery scratch tickets as well as peel-and-read and peel-and-reseal applications.
Catering for the trend towards the use of energy-saving LED curing technology, the RUCO product range now also includes UVFX-LED inks. These are silicone-free, offer high colour strength and brilliance and are suitable for combination printing. Due to the inks’ low viscosity, this series offers excellent printing properties.
All the above RUCO printing inks are carefully matched to each other and are designed to open up impressive opportunities for the production of labels with high potential to grab attention.
